A few years back while working on abstractions of dune grass, I began to draw on the influences of Asian landscape, paper roll painting and developed my compositional ambitions toward long horizontals.

After decades of organizing rectangles, working with these shapes was both refreshing and challenging.

As the walking wave series developed, it opened up the potential for long horizontial compostion in a way that the dune grass series never attained. The photographic raw material of the series was a perfect fit for what I was trying to accomplish.
