Composition 331

Though it may not be apparent on the surface, a lot of Composition 331 breaks from convention.

Rather than coming from a digital video capture, the images were shot using rapid shooting mode on a digital SLR. When compared to a composition from video, the differences in clarity, nuance of lighting and tonal quality are immediate.

The higher image sizes and resolutions required working with Photoshop’s Large Image Format and with that, the understanding that I was now producing pieces able to hold their own in contemporary scale exhibitions.

Creatively, the SLR produced a smaller number of images covering a particular moment of movement, which in turn called for a more intuitive and flexible approach to how the composition was organized.
